How can you tell if you need a new mattress?

How do you know when it is time to get a new mattress? Studies show that the average person sleeps more than 2 years on an uncomfortable mattress before deciding to replace it!

Mattresses wear out just like anything else. Don't forget, you use it all night, every night. Then one morning you wake up and realize that you might need a new mattress.

    How can you tell anyway?
  • You bought your current mattress more than ten years ago.
The average life span of a quality mattress is ten years to fifteen years. Mattresses older than that suffer from fatigue (deteriorating comfort)
  • You wake up feeling more tired than when you went to sleep.
Most people wait too long to replace their mattress. If you don’t feel refreshed and rejuvenated, it’s time to get a new one.
  • The sofa feels more comfortable than your bed.
Concentrate on the feel of your mattress. Is it lumpy or sagging? Your body needs a smooth comfortable sleeping surface to get a good night’s sleep. Your mattress should enable you to sleep through the night with minimal tossing and turning.
  • Your mattress looks like your grandmother’s mattress.
Inspect your mattress regularly for sags and imprints. The comfort layers in all mattresses compress over time. If your mattress appears worn and uneven, it’s time to start shopping.
  • You and your partner roll toward the middle of the bed
That’s a sign that the coils and comfort layers are fatigued. There’s no use in flipping that mattress…the “dip” in the middle will just settle in again on the other side.
  • You’ve taken your mattress for granted.
Mattresses are the most used yet most ignored piece of furniture in the house. Pay attention to your mattress. Do you hear creaks? The condition of your mattress may come as a surprise, especially if you sleep in a hotel or relative’s home.
