Create a place for your “stuff”

How do we accumulate so much stuff? Most of us are savers, collecting trivial items, from school awards to vacation trinkets, which seem important at the time. Then when it’s time to pack up our lives and find a new place, we sort out the unimportant, and not-so-favorite items to lighten our load, but it's our attachment to mementos and “stuff” that we hold on to. We often carry boxes of stuff around with us as we move from house to house. We rarely look at them, or even open them. But the stuff in those boxes can be important reminders of special moments in our lives.

So it’s time to come out of the closet! Show off your grandmother’s tea set in your china-buffet. Choose a cupboard or bakers rack to display your favorite pottery and cookbooks. For smaller treasures, place a curio in that empty corner. Or use a console or sofa table beneath a window.

Display some pictures on a shelf in your entertainment unit or fireplace mantel. Or take a blank wall in your hallway and use a variety picture frames to provide interest and color to your photos.
